Ok so this is a little detailed. I had to take my puppy maximus back to the breeder because it turned out that he was cryptorchid, (why the breeder didnt catch it is beyond me... anyway) i took him back and he got me another male puppy that was sound and we checked him and I had him well pupy checked by a vet this time. So that was about a month or so ago, and today I get a call out of the blue. from some lady in a town about 80 miles north of here. Turns out she found maximus just running around in her neighbourhood and called him over and he went to get another smaller femal pup and would not leave her side. well they caught them (apparently not hard to catch, thanks to my socialization skills) and called the vet number on the tag max was wearig and gave the rabies shot number ( i got this done when we took the dog to vet for cyrptorchid check) and they gave the lady my contact info. so i call the breeder and find out that he was sold along with the femal puppy to a guy in the same town they were found in. so after some phone tag we got the new owner in touch with the lost dog finder and got the dogs reunited with the owner.
I just say that it makes me feel hope for the world to know that there are good people out there and at first i was afraid that the breeder had ust dumped the dogs but without revealing myself i found out that he had been sold to a new owner and he gave me the same town that they had been found in. So it warms the heart to know that everybody was honest in dealing with this and the lost puppies were reunited with their owner.

I hope Maximus doesn't get lost again, and the new owner puts the contact information in their own name.
Lucky they got ahold of you to connect! I helped re-home a GSD and he was found by AC as a stray w/ collar and tags(on the other side of the state)....somehow his contact info came back to me and I let the former owner know he was found so she could contact whoever she re-homed him to. The owner never put the dogs info in his name! |

Amazes me that some people don't think to change the microchip and other ID info. A few years ago a stray shih tzu was brought in to the clinic where I used to work. Dog was very sweet: young, clean, recently groomed, wearing a collar & bandana (no tags). We scanned him and found a chip: Yay! Unfortunately, the ID went back to an out-of-state pet store who gave us the name of the "breeder". Number was disconnected. We tried for 3 months to find the dog's owners, never did. He's now making a GREAT companion to my 85 year old mother in law.

Can I ask you a question? Cryptorchidism is not a "fatal" desease....why did you gave him back?
Phenix had the same problem, even if the breeder told us she checked all the puppies(...), Phenix had to be neurtered to prevent any cancer. It wasnt very important because we didn't expect him to reproduce, so we decided to keep him knowing that this "desease" isn't dangerous and a simple intervention solve the problem. So, I'm just wondering....I would have never been abble to bring back Phenix, even if he had a more serious desease....is it because you wanted an "intact" male to do reproduction? trish sorry for the late post, been busy, short answer is yes, i was looking for an intact male for breeding purposes. that is why i returned him. it was hard to do because he has a great temperament and i was devastated to find out he was cryptorchid, he was also gorgeous and i was looking forward to seeing bueatiful puppies out of him. but unfortunately i had no choice but to take him back and wait for the next litter.

Well, the breeder may not have realyzed your dog was cryptorchid because at eight weeks, if that is when you got him, his testicals might not be decended all the way yet, or, there is a little ring. Before the ring closes, testicals can go up and down. They could have actually been down when she checked them.
