Default Injuries caused by your dog

On Friday I was out back with the puppers and the camera. I bent down and stupidly grabbed the ball to throw it. It all happened very quickly. Timber took off, catching his head in the camera strap, which caused my not so cheap camera to launch into the yard bouncing, which then caused me to face plant into the dirt. The injury? A sprained thumb. I'm not sure if it was caused by his head, the camera being yanked out of my hand or the landing on the ground.

I'm sure it was comical. I would have probably laughed if I wasn't involved. Though it's pretty funny now. I do have to point out that my husband made the correct choice in asking how I was, rather then the camera. Though there was a little bit too long of a delay in the question, leading me to believe that he had to think about it.

Anyone else have any stories to share?

Let's see ~

Scratched cornea about two years ago that took months to heal (dog scratched it with his nail).

Chipped tooth from a dog coming up the same time I bent down.

And the latest, knee surgery due to a 97 lb dog running into the knee and bending it the wrong way (meniscus tear and damaged cartilage). This so far as been a three month recovery, with about three more to go.

This doesn't count the multiple bite wounds from over energetic ball & tug play.

When B was a pupper threw my back out so back I could not walk,
Bruises galore, cuts on the face, sprained ankle
but so worth it

Wrinkled retina in left eye with permanent vision difficulties due to puppy jumping up as I was bent over him grooming him.

At the beginning of May, I noticed that some of the honeysuckle vines near the bottom of the doggy yard fence looked like they could become a "noose" for any pups racing around the yard near the fence, so I decided to go out and trim everything from the ground up. There I was, unsuspectingly trimming away when Hurricanes Nikki and Lucy raced by me, too close...bashing me in the knee and almost knocking me over. I have bad knees anyway, so it was pretty painful and swollen for a few days. They've done it a couple more times after that as well.

Then there was another time when I was taking one of them out on the leash (before we got obedience school training) and she tried getting through the porch gate before I had a good handle on the leash. I jumped to close the gate before she got through and ended up with the bottom half of one of my legs going one way, the top half going the other. Pain and swelling for a whole week.

Last, but not least...after a soaking rain..I am out in the doggy yard searching for poos to heave over the fence into the woods. The yard is on a bit of a slope downwards..I am (stupidly) wearing my Crocs instead of, say, football cleats. I hit a muddy spot and slid into a mud bog likely filled with some melted dog poo, where I laid on my back, unable to get up. Mr Pipi had to come out and rescue me. Meanwhile, in the 45 seconds it took him to get outside and pull me up, the pups were inside laying waste to his diabetic testing kit which was on the kitchen counter.

Me and the pups...it's like the Three Stooges with me as the Main Stooge.

I think Lynn has us beat!!

I have a scar on my eyelid from Diesel as a puppy flying thru the air and nailing me with her canine. Numerous swollen lips from over enthusiastic food hounds in obedience, lol

I think we all take a lot of beatings from our beloved pets, but I agree with Angela, I think Lynn does have us beat! Ha!

I took a hit in the face from my hard headed pup, gave me a huge black eye, and I thought she broke my nose but she just badly bruised it.

I have also had my thumb broken from getting pushed down the stairs by my over eager 120lb male who thought he needed to get down the stairs first...I was glad it was just my thumb that broke.

I forgot one... got my hand caught inside a prong right as the dog took off after the helper... ripped the skin right to the bone of one of my fingers. I am very proactive now when I see people grabbing their dogs by the prong collar. Maybe I'm just accident prone...LOL

Since I got Zeke, there hasn't been a day when I haven't had bruises covering my arms and legs. I don't even remember how I get most of them! I've gotten a few bad one's from Zeke's huge head ramming into my knees. And he is never gentle nor apologetic!

I agree, so far Lynn has us beat! Don't think that's something I want to beat either!!

Bite to my hand when Dante was going for the hose (I now use a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG thingie ma-bob on the end of the hose so he can't get my hand if the gets over enthusiastic)

Bite to my.......well let's just say I had the tug tucked in my armpit when Dante decided he didn't want to wait for me to give it to him. That one actually made me feel a bit for a moment.

A fat lip - luckily no teeth chipped or knocked out. Gotta watch those heads!!
