Our Jakey. Not technically a shelter dog, but we rescued him from going to a
shelter by adopting him from Craigslist. We got him a year ago last Monday.
He's a loving companion, fierce protector, and fluffy pillow-pet all in one!

Default Max - adult black and tan GSD - rescued Dec 22, 2010

It has been a little over three months since I brought Max home from a shelter here in West Virginia. He had been seized from his second owner for neglect/abandonment. Max has integrated in to my pack of seven and continues to be a wonderful addition to my fur family. Here he is now in a photo taken before our basic obedience class yesterday.

Today is day 3 at his new forever home. Heidi and Bruder are playing virtually non-stop. What a great thing. And, it gives my elder 9 year old Lab some peace.

We've had one bad moment and that was yesterday morning when I mistakenly did not kennel Bruder while I was preparing food. Heidi started a fight with him; and it was ugly. Only lasted a minute...but long enough for her to bite my leg (accidently).
Hard lesson learned for me.

Here's my two young hooligans at play.
Wow, just ran across this from way back when. Here's a recent picture of my shelter boy:

Default GSD mix shelter "pup"

Hi everyone, great pictures! This is my first post here, thought I'd share my GSD/Hound mix Maggie, shelter dog extraordinaire. She is just shy of 6 months old and growing like crazy...she was 7 pounds in December, 33 pounds now & our vet thinks she'll hit 60 lbs.

(She loves her 4-year-old English Bulldog sister...)

Three people, including the vet, told us that it looks like she might have some husky in her. Any opinions?

All the best!

Default Erin

This is "Erin Georgia" she was 8 months old (the rescue listed her name as "Sahara"). We adopted her on September 30, 2010 from the "11th Hour Rescue," located in Randolph, New Jersey. She weighed in at only 40lbs! Today she's a robust 75 lbs!

*I've just learned how to upload/downlownd from the camera to the computer to the forum. I'll be posting Erin's current photos soon!

All but one dog I have had was a escue. The one that never was a rescue was my husbands little oops dog he had before he met me.

My first dog pepper and the best dog ever. I had her 15 years she was 16 Yr when I lost her this month. She was a pound dog.

Meatball the pit is a rescue there is pepper my old lady. Indy the little oops dog.

New love of my life. She is a parvo survivor from a rescue.

My Pooka:

He was found on the streets in Indiana in February 2003 and apparently was in a bad way as he had to go through a month of treatment before he could be adopted out. He lived with the family that adopted him for 3 years. After that he ended up with a friend of of ours for about 6 months or so. His wife decided Pooka couldn't stay after Pook "ate" a kitten (he played too rough and killed the kitten). Our friend was on the way to a no-kill shelter when we intercepted and said we'd take him. It was a bumpy road the first few months. But he's been my shadow and bestest buddy since then. He's a darn good sous chef too!

This was his pic from the rescue website. He went from the streets of Baltimore to a Baltimore shelter, then to the rescue's kennel so he and his sister would be saved from being destroyed that afternoon, then he went on to 2 different foster homes before finally resting his weary floppy-eared self in his furever home!! (Mind you, this happened over a course of 2 weeks!!!)

I'm sure he thought he was on the move once again after he had to be admitted to the ER vet after only being with us for 3 days for pneumonia. The furious wagging of his tail when he realized he was coming back home with us when he was better will always be one of my sweetest memories.

Whenever we're out and about, people are always totally surprised to learn he was a shelter/rescue. I'm always sharing his story and tend to go overboard when showing pics of him -esp. on Facebook- b/c I want people to know there are absolutely GORGEOUS dogs to be found at shelters and you don't just save them, they save you too.

Sorry to drag up and old thread but thought I would add some of my pound puppy, hope you dont mind that he is a lab.

From hard cement floors to the warmth of a bed and his blanket(well technically mine but....well any dog owner knows how that goes, lol)

he then moves to the couch and yes he did steal the pillow from me as well

He has the wraps around his leg because he was out running and had a 8in nail go through his pad and he had to get stitches. The sock is over it so he didn't chew the wrap off(the vet didnt give us the "cone of shame" so we had to be creative)
