My boy is a coated pup, is there a difference between coated and 'plush'?

His mother is a standard hair and his father just looked a little fluffy, he kind of had what looked like a lion mane and the rest of him looked standard though I only met him once. Is there a gene that plays into whether they are coated or not? I mean, despite what their parents look like.

This is the litter at 4 weeks, they are almost 5 weeks now. He'd be one of the boys, maybe the first one on the top right? I'm going to go meet the litter soon so maybe I can see better then.

i dont exactly know this coat but is not long or short is eaither medium or smush

Cassidysmum the colouring on Keefer as a puppy is just like my Jenna's.
She looks like a mini black bear from the top.
