After getting Milou, I am dying to see what other long coated puppies look like at different stages in their development. How much did they weigh at each stage? How did their body type differ from a stock coat or long stock coat GSD?
I don't know if it's her size or her coat but I get asked practically on a daily basis what Milou is. Our own trainer has called her a sheltie/collie mix in class even though she has supposedly owned long coated GSDs! The breed comparison was particularly annoying because Milou was sitting next to a fully grown tricolor Collie and three Shelties varying in size from 15lbs to our own oversized 30lb boy. She couldn't have looked less like a Sheltie/Collie if she tried!
(excuse her still bare bottom)
When I corrected the trainer, she said she thought Milou looked too small to be a GSD. I know being raw fed makes her grow slower but really, 43 pounds seems like a perfectly respectable weight for a 6.5 month old female!

@hattifattener She is a rescue baby, she was dumped with a note around her neck that said "2-3 month old German Shepherd Dog". A friend of ours at Westside German Shepherd Rescue picked her up for us to make sure we didn't bring home anything to our other dog. We were initially hoping she might be mixed with something since poorly bred GSDs can have so many hip and joint issues but alas, everyone from the vet to some good breeders say nope, she's 100% GSD. I'm still learning about the breed and wouldn't be able to spot a high percentage mix but thus far we've heard GSD based on the shape of her head and body in addition to the obvious she looks/moves like a GSD. We could always get a DNA test done but I don't see the need.
so you saved a dog. it is much more ethically to take dumped dog than buy a purebred...
my previous GSD (recently died) had multiple faults - she was nervous, lower jaw was too short, but i would never change her to any champion. she was attached to me and i was attached to her. i mean each dog is unique.
@hattifattener So true. My husband says we hit the puppy lottery with her! Even with her puppy issues in full swing, including a fear period right now, we think she's perfect.
Ruger says "thanks". The only problem with long coats is when you are showing them. I was doing rally with Ruger, but I still wanted him to look his best. It took me 3 solid hours, the night before a show to brush him out, bath him and blow dry him. I HAD to blow his coat dry, otherwise he was really puffy and he looked like he was 150 lbs!
Glock in with his siblings. He's pretty much center, the dark puppy who looks slightly different than the rest. (The cutest one. )
Okay, it doesn't really show his long coat, but it's cute!!
His ear floofies.
My little bunny....
Monday, 8 1/2 Months.
Glock up until 6 months was about 10 pounds per months, 4 months 40 pounds, 5 months 50 pounds, etc. I weighed him about a week and a half ago and he was 72.4 pounds. Can't remember if you asked about weight! Obviously he is not as loong coat as some, but he might get a longer coat as he gets older, I don't know.
He is gorgeous. I LOVE his mane. I am excited to see how Rocket's coat develops. He has some adult hairs appearing in strange places, you can tell because they're totally different than his puppy fur.
I love love love her ear fluffs! They're my favorites. She also has "butt-fluffs" as we call them lol I have to find her puppy pics then I'll post those!
He doesn't have as fluffy of a coat as most, but I'm told he is a LC. He will be 11 months in a few days, he is around 80lbs? Not quite sure, need to take him to get weighed. Trainer says he is a few lbs overweight.:wild:
