My first dog, Storm, a GSD x, lived to be 16 years old. Here she is with 8 month old Luka.

BTW - 16 years old!? That is amazing! That is a true testiment to the love and care you provided! Great job!

Thank you! Storm was a remarkable dog, we went through so much together... I got her when I was 18 years old, as soon as I got out of high school. She survived my ham-fisted attempts at training with grace and forgiveness, went to my college classes with me (and everywhere else), and was unfailingly obedient and loyal. We went from being homeless and living in a van, to me buying my first house, to getting married, all the way through getting divorced. At age 12, she had a canteloupe-sized benign tumor removed from her abdomen; bounced right back. At age 14 she began having bouts of vestibular syndrome, then later DM, yet she kept her lust for life and sense of humor for another couple of years before finally giving up the ghost. She was awesome. I still miss her.

I love viewing all these pictures. All the GSD's still look wonderful even as seniors!

That's awesome that you kept her with you - I don't think she minded one bit that you had to live in a van (and most people would have given her away at that point) - cuz I bet she would have preferred to be cold, hungry and unsure of things WITH you, than warm and fed anywhere else without you! They love us that much!! I'm sorry she's gone, but so happy you had her there with you through all of the rought spots!

So sad that my Nero now counts as a senior. But he seems to get more puppyish with every year that passes by.

The snowy scene is when Nero was 7 months old, And the other was taken a month or so ago. Nero is 8yrs and and two months now.

It's time to bump this thread!

Luka at 11.5 years. Except for her Pannus, she's healthy as a horse and will never stop playing ball.

I love these pictures! I will have to scan some pictures of my Jessie dog to add. She was my best friend when I was growing up and it was the most difficult thing I've lived through when I lost her. She was a true shepherd, loyal to the bone.
