I am in Ct for a week long Canine Search Specialist class for my urban work. It is an awsome class with instructors that I am learning an amazing amount from. But it has also been a little bit weird--we have had 2 visits from News reporters this week. Our first reporter (with camera man) came on day 2 and they asked for us to give them a basic overview of what the dogs do. It was aired on a local Fox channel that night. It is on their website--and is a really nice piece on SAR dogs. They gave it a decent amount of time and the quotes from the handlers and instructors were great. And Griffin got some good air time!!!! He is the only Shep shown, he did agility for them. http://www.fox61.com/pages/fox61_news_at_ten. Under the video thing, I type Dog in the search box and the clip shows up.
I was so thrilled to see him on Tv--and besides that he handled himself very well in front of the cameras!! A second crew came out this afternoon and filmed us while we were doing a mock search. I believe he will be on Tv tonight too. After doing a rubble problem in front on the camera, the reporter filmed 2 sound clips while tugging with Griff. This was a different channel--WTNH channel 8/WCTX channel 9 in Ct. It is supposed to air at 10p tonight--we'll see!! |

We have had a lot of fun this week. The dogs got a lot of work and I, for one, learned a great deal.
Here is the clip of the second news report. http://www.wtnh.com/ type in k9 training in the search box. The clip should be the first one. This clip also shows more of the rubble pile. Thanks for checking it out!!! |

Thanks Cassidy's Mom!!
Yep that is Griff and me. Technically we were supposed to be doing a mock search and my 'Search Manager" sent me over to the pile to search the rt half. But they were filming a dog (the choc lab who helped 'save' the lady from the big culvert pipe), so I had to 'stand by'. They showed the footage of Griff making his find earlier in the clip, I think. In actuality, the lab worked and found first and then Griff went in for the victim on the edge of the pile. When you listen you can hear a trapped 'victim' tell the searcher that her leg hurt, she is the same lady dragged out of the culvert pipe. She was funny because she thought the TV guys were acting too--she didnt realize they were real, so she was very embarassed that she over acted so much (I thought she made it sound real!). Again, neat that we all made it on tv, but weird to be learning about training/searching etc and have 2 different TV reporters on 2 days do stories.... |
