Default SDA and SAR

http://www.servicedogsofamerica.com/Rules/SAR.html

Tests and titles were written by veteran working SAR handlers.

Note the last paragraph on the main SAR page:

Quote:
Quote:The Service Dogs of America SAR program begins with a basic instinct certification, which will identify possibly candidates for SAR work. Each successive title increases in difficulty, with the SAR LEVEL-3 requiring a "find" in a 5 acre area. The SDA titles are a way to test breeding stock for instincts and drives needed for producing pups suitable for SAR work. It also offers a way for people to enjoy the training challenges and activities associated with SAR, and allows new handlers or those with young dogs a chance for extra training activities. The SDA SAR titles are not actual working SAR certifications in themselves, but show that a team has passed certain SAR exercises on a certain day. The SDA SAR program does not cover many of the handler requirements, such as CPR, map reading, first aid, and other vital skills. By offering these titles, we aim to increase public awareness and appreciation of SAR dogs, and offer those training for SAR a venue to test their progress as they work toward FEMA or other state certifications.
