I have a lure coursing customer who does both SAR and HRD with her two dogs. The SAR dogs is a Dobe/Boxer mix and the HRD dog is a German Coolie.
She brought some remains with her today so she could give me a demo of what Roo, the Coolie, does. I took the bottle with the remains and hid it up inside the engine of our tractor. The tractor has a slow oil and gas leak so the remains were right next to some VERY strong odors. It only took Roo about 5 minutes to find the source!! It was very cool to watch her work the area and narrow down the source. There was a strong wind blowing and you could almost see her follow the scent upwind to the bottle (which she could not see). Roo has only been working about 6 months on HRD and is a phenomenal dog!!
