Default URGENT SAR help needed in North Carolina

If you are in the Greensboro North Carolina area or know experienced SAR in SNOW on trail a few days old please PM. My Uncle has been missing since going on a walk/hike prior to the snowstorm on Monday. Dogs tracked him partially but lost his trail in snow. Please PM with serious inquiries this is an emergency and the family does not need false hopes or nut cases responding. Thank you

Crooked Creek, have you contacted the local authorities yet? That would be the first step. I know you said "the dogs lost the trail in the snow," but I didn't know if those were trained SAR dogs or not. Most SAR units are called out by local authorities. I hope you can find someone. Keep us updated!!

There are definitely SAR units that respond to that area.

They are called out by LE or Emergency Management - if your LE is not responding [surely they have been involved?] you may want to call one of the resources listed for advice but they will probably ONLY deploy to a formal request from an agency.

The logical resource at this point in time could well be air scent dogs in conjunction with trailing dogs. Right now while resources are being located, the family needs to leave his stuff alone [close the door] so a good scent article can be collected [by the dog handlers, not by the family]

The teams on this site are registered with the NC SAR advisory council.

Also please ask your family to FULLY respond to interview questions that may seem probing, sometimes embarrasing.

Oftentimes something not viewed as important for the search leaders to know can provide vital cues to the searchers.

I am sorry, maybe a discussion on the abilties of air scent dogs to smell through the snow and the fact that unpaid professional volunteer resources, who are fully insured, are willing to spend their own time and money looking for you uncle will push them to reconsider?

To reconsider what? Am I missing something?

Per the articles, the Greensboro PD suspended the search and said they would look later in the week when the snow melts.

I couldn't open the links here at work (funny how I can open this board though). Re: what you said the articles say.......Oh wow. 'Cause that's smart *shakes head*

Wish I had an air scent dog

There are plenty in the state

State teams listed on that http://www.ncsar.com site but will not self-deploy.
