Creasy learning to heel
Hey everyone, long time! I started training Creasy just recently, been super lazy! He is doing well in all 3 phases. A friend shot some video today, what do you think? This is in triple digit Texas heat!
Creasy Heeling - YouTube
Very nice! Excellent rear-end awareness (Creasy - not you, ;) ). Love the animation, focus, and lightning fast sits - how did you get him to sit so fast? I'm always struggling with hydraulic sits when Gryff is in drive, but he works flat if I don't get him up in drive before a session.
The only think that I would warn you about is to not do so many sudden stops (as awesome as his sits are) - he is doing a lot of bunny hopping, anticipating a stop, and with the new rules, bunny-hoping is penalized.
So now that Creasy has the stop and sit down so well, I'd work on just getting a nice, open, natural forward moving heel from him.
The sudden stops and frequent fast turns are to keep him engaged and anticipating and thinking "what will my handler do next? I need to keep a close eye on this dude he is unpredictable". At this stage of training we do not want anything that can become routine and boring for the dog.
