We trained the silent guard after having control issues, it worked! Now we are switching him back to active guarding, always fun with this dog
Made a couple of handling errors worth ~6 points, overall very happy with his progress. Let me know what you think. Big thanks to Jason and Fallon for the vid.Gnash SchH2 Protection - YouTube Last edited by Packen; 12-29-2011 at 11:40 AM. |

First.... excellent videography!
Really nice routine. He seems very clear-headed and strong.

Good control work. Made me smile how he started barking at the helper after the long bite, waiting for you to approach - did that cost any points?

Thanks Mary and Lucia. Where I lost him points were in the call-out and the final out after the long bite. For the call-out I really went loud so totally changed the tone, cost me an additional command and movement on my part to help him get back into basic position.
After the long bite I had lost my brain and thought the judge will signal me to command the out! when I regained my brain cell it was too late and he outed a sec before my command, judge saw that. We normally out 3 seconds after the helper locks up in training. I don't think the barking during the guard after long bite cost me anything, he likes to bark during the guard but would get too high so we put OB there and had him sit for a good 8 months (I commanded sit instead of aus). Now that he is clear we will free him up to bark during the guard. |

Yep, I heard the "Hier" really well in the call-out, but the fuss part, not so much.
I enjoyed watching the video as my Ari dog is a "relative" of your Gnash. We are working the "barely under control" (and sometimes not) phase right now. I was impressed with how clear, and yet not stressed, Gnash looks.

Way to go, Packen and Gnash!!! Congrats again of his SchH2!
Never get tired of watching that boy ... Wish I had filmed that insane long bite the day before the trial, you know that one I am talking about!

Thanks everyone, appreciate your comments. Jason, I remember that long bite very clearly and the flip Gnash did in the air + the tumbling on the ground with the sleeve in his mouth + Randal's comment "too fast and hard I could not hold him". That would have been a cool video
I am just very Leary of the long bite with the potential for injury to the helper and/or the dog.

I don't blame you. Gnash is an absolute kamikazi on the long bite and we are running out of helpers! That boy is just wired differently.
I can't wait to see what you guys will do at the Regional in Feb. I hear the plan is to really "free him up" in protection! Sweet!
