Default Transport Costs

Anyone have ideas what it costs to transport a dog or pup to Denver area? Most of the shepherds I've seen in rescues are east coast and california.

I've never had to ship an animal so I'm mostly interested in others experiences.

Thx!

Just air is about $300, but it varies by airline. Add crate ($100?), and if you don't have somebody on the other end to send it, you'll have to make arrangements with a animal transporter and that really increases the costs.

But are out of state rescues going to give you a dog?

For airlines I recommend Continental.

A neighbor just sent a Newfie puppy to California. It was so big, they couldn't find a reasonable flight to take it. (probably because of our small airport)

He ended up calling a dog transport company. I saw the guy arrive in his fancy van/truck full of crates. He charged my neighbor about $1,000. Got me thinking about a career changed, except I have my own dogs.

Thanks for the info. No I'm not getting a dog from an out of state rescue. I've just seen posting on the local craigslist mostly from a rescue in California saying they'll send dogs to CO. A friend of mine has been looking for a GSD and I was just interested in the costs.

Thx again.

Oh, good. Then it's easier, and the airlines have special phone numbers for dog transports. I know, I've called a lot of them.

IMHO, a rescue that will ship a dog without ever having a home visit or meeting the potential adopter is not a reputable rescuer. I smell a buncher or reseller posing as a rescue.

There was a truck driver who would take dogs from east coast to Colorado. A dog I pulled from local animal control went to a Colorado rescue that way.

I'm not sure how the rescue in CA checks with potential adopters, I just saw the post on CL and wondered what it may cost.
