what I was told. Not that it matters I love him to death and he has been a part of my life for over 2 yrs now. We rescued him from a shelter, someone had moved out of the house without him and he was very sick and emanciated (sp?) They said he was left in the vacant house for over a month. He was only 7 months old at that time.
I was doing research on Bengals. I wanted a Bengal since I had heard they were alot like dogs. I did a search on petfinder and found Craig (was named Kwigon at the time) Said he was a bengal/tabby mix. He was small from being sick but his fur was so soft and stryking! We adopted him asap. We however werent able to get him until a month later. He developed some sort of lung infection. Anyways I am going off topic.... After watching a show of Cats101 on animal planet I have learned he is actually an Egyptian Mau/American shorthair mix! After doing some research on Egyptian maus.. everything makes SOOO much more sense as far as his disposition and personality AND that lil pouch he has in back of stomach area. I can't believe I have had Craig for almost 3 years and JUST NOW am learning his real breed mix and now putting the pieces of the puzzle together everything makes so much more SENSE! ... crazy. Ill post some pics later... just wanted to share. I was kind of shocked. Then again he was a rescue and the original owners never spoke to the rescue so I guess they had to guess anyways. Not their fault.

I didn't know rescues were supposed to guarantee the breed, or worse yet, "breed mix". If one wants a purebred animal, they go to a breeder?

Aww. Well whatever he is you love him anyways, and that is what counts. Sorry you didn't get what you were looking for though. I would love to see a pic.
(A little offtopic, but every time I see/hear of an Egyptian Mau, I am reminded of the Mean Little Kitty Song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qit3ALTelOo )

We adopted a cat about 3 years ago from a rescue group and figured Miss Pepper was just a domestic mix. She had been taken from a hoarder and needed a home.
Her first trip to the vet was an eye opener. The vet used to breed Abyssinian cats and said Pep was probably a very high mix if not pure. I was surprised but it did not matter. My guess is she is a high mix. Whatever she is she is a hoot!

oy... so first of all I didnt want a purebread Bengal from a breeder because they were expensive and I wanted to rescue a cat So I searched in a rescue. I never said they "gaurenteed me the breed..." it was just noted he was a bengal tabby mix. And I am 98% sure he is a Egyption mau/american shorthair mix... due to lots and lots of research I have done about the breed and comparing characteristics in coat, body and personality and traits. It could be a possibility that some other third breed is in there.. but I know for sure those two are the strongest traits of any cat on my list for Craig. I had always wondered why my "bengal" wasnt like my other freinds bengal cats. I wasnt posting this because I was mad at the rescue! they had no clue.. i was just suprised to find out all the info I did in my research and everything now... makes SO much more sense.

It is funny how we find these things out! We were given a persain years ago. The woman said it was a male... well we went to get him neutured like a month later and the vet says... "well we won't be nueturing this cat... however we WILL be SPAYING her" think it was all that fluffy fur. Couldnt really tell all that well i guess. LoL
