Hero, until about two hours ago, had spent her entire life in the backyard of a house in Vienna VA. A former adopter of two of my fosters lived near by and couldn't stand to watch this poor dog spend her second winter outside.
Another volunteer evaluated her and found her to be sweet, but terrified of everything. When I found out that it was going to dip down to 17 degrees tonight (and you would not believe the horrible cold wind today!) I told John (my SO) that I could not stand the thought of her being outside tonight in this cold. So off we went and got her out of that wretched backyard. The people that owned her made a big deal about how much they loved her. Yeah - so much that she hadn't seen a vet since she was a puppy. After we loaded her into our van, she wiggled up between the two front seats between us and hunkered down. When her two previous owners walkted out to say goodbye to her, she did not even look up at them. She is now happily lounging on a dog bed and spending her first night ever, inside. I am so happy she's here and out of that yard!

Yay! Another poor soul out of the gold. Good job Remo! Please post pics when you get a chance. Would love to see this girl enjoying the good life.
Not sure it was the name her crappy owners gave her or not, but I've always loved that name, even if the mythological Hero didn't fare too well. |

How wonderful! I can't imagine how great it must feel to this sweetie to sleep in a warm home on a soft bed. Great save - thank you Lea and your foster who spotted this poor girl!!

Hoorah for you!! Another dog will have the life it should have instead of just being a possession out in the yard. People like this treat their cars better. Nicely done!!

I enjoy all the fosters I get, but the ones that have spent their lives outdoors are the ones that really end up stealing my heart. There is nothing like introducing a dog to just how good life is when they are on the inside of the patio doors for a change!
Good job saving this one! Sheilah |
