In a moment of temporary insanity, I have added one more to my pack. Zeus is a 10 month old Mal that has had such a hard life in his short 10 months. Left tied to a tree to die after the “breeder” moved, the local AC was able to rescue him. Nearly starved to death, Zeus ended up in a South Jersey shelter. Life should have looked up for him at that point, but because of his breed and his playful puppy nipping he was deemed unadoptable and was to be euthanized. From my understanding, he was on the euthanasia table when his guardian angel saved him. Sean (the owner of the training company I work for) agreed to take Zeus into the kennels. When Zeus arrived he was nothing but skin over bones with no fat whatsoever. He was also very untrusting, not approaching anyone unless bribed.
When I met Zeus, he stole my heart. I couldn’t believe this sweet dog almost lost his life, not once but twice. He did nip but it was all in play. He didn’t know any better and had no manners. Kennel life didn’t agree with him. He would work himself up until he was sick. He wasn’t putting on any weight even though he was being fed a high quality puppy food. He was spin and bark, just wanting someone to come and give him attention. I approached Sean about adopting him. We had already determined that he couldn’t go to just any home. He had some K9 training but was washed, and he was also very high energy. So Zeus came home with me. I was very leery to bring another dog into my home after all the problems I had before, but I figured I would give it a try and if it didn’t work, Sean said that I could bring him back to the kennels and we would continue to look for a home. He has been home a little over two weeks now, and he is like my shadow. Blue is still standoffish with him, Stryker and Sheena think he’s their new best friend, Sierra just looks at me like “Please mom, not another”, and Barron just doesn’t care. Zeus does have a very high prey drive and is intent on chasing the cat every chance he gets. This is something we are still working on, but he is here to stay. He will never have to worry about where his next meal is coming from or if this will be his last day. He now has a safe place to call home with people and pups that love him. This is currently the only picture I have of him. I’m hoping to have more of him by the weekend.

Geeze, it seems I cry every time I get on this forum! What a wonderful story - well, the ending not the beginning - and you must be a wonderful person. I'm so glad you were there for him and can show him that people aren't all bad. Thanks! He looks like a sweetheart. Sonia

Lish, thank goodness there are people like you who can handle a dog like this. He landed in the right place for sure. I look forward to many pictures. You always take nice ones. Maybe you could also slip one in there of Blue?

Lish:
I have followed your entire story of Blue and am thrilled that Zeus found you and that you found Zeus!!!! By the way, I am also staying posted for more photos of Donna's most recent rescue, Sherman from Georgia. She has yet to see him and, I am certain that once she does, the photos will be flowing ![]() Shannon |
