Don't know anything about the costs for pulling and transport but boarding is 5.00. I can give you Carolyn's number (owner of happy hounds and does do paid transports) if you would like. PM me. Thanks and we would love to help Sherman

This is what I know for sure- transport to eadavis is 125.00. I am sending King from Union SC on transport this way on Monday. Its a paid transport, King will be traveling by himself. I am sure that could be arranged for Carver. He will have boarding there, as far as I know, rescue rate will run 5.00 a day. As I mentioned, there is an offer of 100.00 dollars for him already, it is to go where ever he goes. I will also offer an additional 30.00 to help him out.
What we would need is pull help and for him to be vetted/boarded till transport can be arranged-either paid or volunteer, and enough help to do this with.

Something else to consider. Have never had a senior that was heartworm positive. How is that being factored into all this? If I recall, the shelter/vet facility said it would be $100+ to evaluate him to determine his prognosis for treatment, ie cxr and bloodwork? So many seniors in need here, always hard to assess where to put your resources. If for some reason plans can't come together for this particular guy, my mind is open to others like him, with less than a year life expectancy for respite/hospice care. On another note, it's not that I can't find any time to put in some driving. My car is 10yo and needs front end work, so staying closer to home for now. But as you know, I'm also obsessed with getting the book done because that's where I think I'm going to make the biggest difference in helping these kinds of dogs, at the other end of things. Of course, it doesn't help this guy right now. Dawn, I'm in the process of transferring off a PC and onto a Mac, so if you need to get me over next few days, phone might be best way. |

If he is HW+, which he probably is coming from GA, at his age probably the best option would be to keep him on monthly Heartgard and do the slow kill. If he is in a really good shape, one could try the immiticide. I had a dog in congestive heart failure from HW traveling to me (the vet that neutered him at the shelter did not notice that the abdomen full of fluid) and he made the trip and the surgery just fine.
