I have emailed this shelter. It is possible I could help pull this mamma, but it would have to be on a Friday or Sat. But I really don't have any place for her to go unless it is a kennel and I doubt they would even consider taking her without shots, etc.

I believe there are some volunteers with Noble Shepherd that are much closer to this shelter than I am. Marion is a poor county so I doubt they go beyond the call of duty to save any animals taken it there. But I have never dealt with them so cannot say for sure.

I'm in touch with two different people there. I believe this mom and puppies were moved from the shelter to a temp place, but will let you know as soon as I hear back from them. If so, they will still need a rescue to step up for them, but hopefully this was done and they are at least safe.

This mom and pups STILL NEED RESCUE. Her name is now Gretchen. Here is a little info from the woman who has her and the pups:

The question of temperament is of course important but requires having known the dog for some while and under more or less normal situations. Neither of these is the case here. I first saw the dog in person the day after she had delivered eight puppies in a strange, bare, unfriendly place, and only a few days after her owner had dumped her there.

Then there's the factor of post-delivery hormones and the sudden responsibility of protecting her puppies where danger could lurk everywhere and in everyone!

We named her Gretchen, and her first day here was almost like she had been tranquilized, but no one said that had been done. The second day was a different story. This is why I think an influx of hormones may have played a part. She worries about the pups and doesn't want anyone near them. She will eat from my hand, but one unexpected move can bring a sudden painful bite! Her sociability at this point is at zero. She has to learn that life can be better than it has been for her in the past. She was very malnourished, and we question whether she has ever had much care or human companionship at all.

Sorry the answer to your questions isn't what you wanted. I work every day to help her get past this very understandable mistrust and fear.

If you had a foster family with no other pets and lots of patience, it would be a more likely possibility. Perhaps a special family will be sent to you or to us. She deserves a good life!
