I know there were many people who followed shy boy Duke in his earlier years with me and wanted to let you know that he crossed the bridge last week. We had a wonderful life together. GSRNE posted his little tribute on their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/GSRNE

Thank-you to all who cheered him on. His Degenerative Myelopathy had advanced and he passed peacefully.

While I'm here, his sister Matsi also passed away in February. She had a bleeding malignancy, probably hemangiosarcoma, and crossed the bridge peacefully as well.

Matsi...Red...Duke...Star...Sherman...Chewbacca... end of an era....

Oh no, not Dukie too... Run free sweetheart, say hello to my furkids...

So sorry for the loss of Duke and Matsi, cannot believe that it has been 6 years already. But they were still young...

They will be remembered.

All over the place...how true!
Donna, I'm so sorry to hear about Duke and Matsi. You gave them a wonderful life and they left this earth knowing that they were loved.
You are a special person because you rescue these dogs, many of them seniors that nobody else would want, and you give them a good quality of life and love until the end.
AND, the end is not easy.....
It almost destroyed me.
Bless you and thank you.
They are all in good company up there.

Thank-you all for your sentiments and feedback.

My current senior Sophie, who is 16 years and 8 months old now, has surprisingly outlived them all, and she actually bloated at 15yo and continues to live a full life. The other surprise along the way was that the former family found her/me on facebook and contacted me, so I have a confirmed age and history now.

Sophie also has a new sister, Merry, who is an adorable Dixie dog, 22 pound adult. And a handsome senior gsd foster brother, West. So the pack has really evolved.

Happy holidays to all my fellow volunteers and to those who support us!

************************************************** **********

Have a very MERRY Christmas all!

"Is that reindeer I hear?"

"Aren't I handsome?"

"It took me awhile to recover from my unfortunate ordeal."

West on intake..bloated, flea dermatitis, neutered, infections, nutritionally depleted...

One of the last swims together.

Matsi really kept Duke going through a most debilitating disease.

"From my final day of a glorious life, blessings to all, and remember that shy dogs make great pets too!"
