LA Westside GS Rescue / Dexter (aka Rover)

We adopted Rover from the Westside German Shepherd Rescue in LA. He had been found starving and with pnenomia.

We renamed him Dexter and brought him home to our slice of paradise, 20 acres in Lake Tahoe. While walking with my kids to their treehouse, he saw a bear. Even though most bears will go the other way when they see people and dogs, he wasnt taking any chances in protecting my children. With one swipe his face was sliced open to the bone and his back was broken. We rushed him to UC Davis Animal for back surgery (2 plates and 6 pins).

His recovery was good. He is the most loyal, loving, goofy dog a family old ever have. He is loved to pieces by my kids. (Ages 7,7,8 and 9).

He has to be the happiest dog in the planet.

I'm impressed by his hero status. Have you explained to him that his courage in standing up to the bear, while appreciated, was somewhat expensive? LOL

Handsome guy.

My furs are not in storage, nor draped across the bed. They're peering out the kennel door just waiting to be fed.
