Default Gretchen Updates

I guess I overlooked this section of the forum. I will use this thread for updates on Gretchen. For the time being (oh man I hope it doesn't change now that I've said it out loud!!!) I've found a containment option via an empty bedroom. So far no serious damage. Fingers crossed!

Week 1 Noteworthy Items:
  • Has shown no food issues, and has eaten regularly without hesitation
  • Has shown no dog aggression unless pushed by a dog with no manners- this puts her in a fight or flight mode, and she will nip if flight is not an option
  • Has shown moderate interest in playing with toys- this interest is clearly growing and something I will try to build massive value for
  • Has overcome a fear of getting into the car, but still needs to be lifted out of the car at the destination
  • Has shown extreme anxiety at walking in a public setting.
  • Has shown fear signals to approaching strangers while leashed in a public setting (cowering at my leg, uncontrolled urination, growling at approaching stranger)
  • Pulls hard on lead when on walks, but not to the point of choking and hacking
  • Have started head collar conditioning with a Gentle Leader
  • Weight: 54.5 lbs on 10/26/2011

This week's training schedule (week schedules will be Wednesday to Wednesday):
  • Continued work with head collar conditioning- 7 head halter games
    • Show value for the HH
    • Tighten HH and fight for cookies
    • Tugging with the tight HH
    • All good things start with HH
    • Streaming cookies with HH on (cookies stop when HH falls)
    • Working to find HH opportunities
    • When HH is "clicked" cookies come
  • Building value for toy play and tugging
  • Beginning crate games (Susan Garrett- Crate Games DVD --> which for crying out loud still hasn't gotten here. It better arrive tomorrow!)
  • Beginning tricks
    • Clicker means treats
    • Tug & Retrieve
    • Early Proprioception
    • Reinforcement zone, value for RZ
    • Nose touches

This is great! Thanks for making a Gretchen-update specific thread

I'm excited to see her progress - and I think it's wonderful to keep a log of all her improvements (or regressions) while you're trying to rehab her. This could possibly help the rescue as well as yourself and her future owners!

Thanks for keeping us in the loop with your foster.

ETA: I guess I thought that someone said WOW before but upon review it seems not... so I first the WOW! : )

Just when you think everything is going well, you come home to torn up door trim...

I'm envious at your training organization. My life isn't that well organized.
