I just read the entire thread and wanted to say how much I admire you and your husband for rescuing this sweet, neglected dog who was so much in need of a loving home. It sounds like your care and patience has really paid off. It's wonderful that Mac has accepted him and that they're buddies now.

Thank you for rescuing Bart and I also think it's time for a photo update for all of us Bart fans!

Thanks to all for the replies and kind words.

I'm the biggest sap. I just reread this thread...I laughed...I cried . I remember how scared I was at first and how I depended on all of you every step of the way to do right by Bart and Mac. Some people think I take it too seriously and they are "just dogs" but I honestly believe that dogs are in shelters and become unadoptable because of their parents/owners failures. I take that responsibility very seriously and I don't care who thinks its silly.

For everyone out there who is considering a rescue, all I want to say is that the joy they bring into your life far outweighs the struggles. And if you are prepared and take advantage of all of the available resources for help, you can do it.

Our first dog, Mac, was a puppy. I wanted an older dog but my husband felt unless we had the dog as a baby we wouldn't bond with it the same way. I have to tell you its not true . We've only had Bart for 6 months and he is approx. 4 years old. And we could not love him more. He's completely bonded to us as well.

I'm not trying to preach or discourage people who want a puppy. Eventhough I have to say the rescue was much much easier than a puppy LOL. All I'm saying is don't discount the possibility of a rescue because of what you hear about their baggage etc. even from the rescue or shelter. Do your homework and trust your gut.
