Default Williamston, NC - 1 female, 1 male moved to rescue stories for updates SEGSR

The owner of these two dogs is dying and has moved from the property. They were left there and are now the responsibility of the county. The ACO is wonderful and has been going out to feed them. She is doing everything she can to help them, but has limited resources and is reaching out to rescues to try and get help for them. If rescue is not found for them in the next couple of days, they will be taken to the local shelter. It is tiny and dogs receive absolutely no vetting. It is a gassing shelter.

ACO was told they are between 1-1/2 and 2 years old. Both need to be spayed/neutered and brought UTD on vaccinations. There IS local assistance to pull and get to a vet and help with transport.

Very bonded to each other. They were evaluated and there were no signs of any food aggression in either. Both people friendly. Male wanted to play with helper dog. Female snapped twice at helper dog. Hard to tell at this point how she would be if not on her property. Neither was interested in toys (but probably don't even know what they are).

If anyone can help, please contact me via PM or Joanne Thompson at jamesthompson@earthlink.net

They look so much alike that we're not sure which is the male and which is the female, so posting best guess!

Their lovely living conditions...

Male

Female

I could probably take the male... they're about 2 hours from me. Beautiful bi-colors. Wonder if they're related? is there ANY way the male could be cat tested? any idea how they are with kids?

the two shepherds are siblings. No way to cat test. There are no cats around and the shelter does not have cats. I would not do kids under 10. There are no kids around either to really test. They are very strong but they have been in that pen for 6 weeks now so they get no exercise.

Just a thought ... but if any rescue is thinking of pulling these two, the sweet LH girl in Kinston is only an hour from them. Heck, make it a Rescue Run!

Both are being taken to the shelter today... When the ACO arrived, they had both gotten out of the pen. She's trying to make room for them at the shelter, but this is a very small shelter. They won't have much time at all.

Hi Susan! Hope all is well with you and the "kids"!

ACO's phone number is 252-799-6800. She is doing everything she can to keep them from going down. There are just very limited resources. No funds available for altering, vaccinations, worming, HW testing. But she is a caring and compassionate lady, so big kudos to her for taking on the job at this shelter. From what I understand, she hasn't been on the job long (but has lots of experience). I have a feeling she's going to make a difference (good!) for the animals in this shelter in the future.
