Thanks for bunking her! I am sure she is glad to be out of the cold.
I am guessing that you meant her original owners had her out on a tie-out, not the shelter?????

I felt so sorry for the girl, she has been at the shelter quite long and in danger, so she got her Chrismas gift of safety. The shelter was wonderful, Bobbi was there on Christmas Eve to help me get her extra large crate into my car (the one I brought along was too small so we had to break it down to squeeze the big one in). We got home too late for the Christmas Eve pizza party for the dogs (the pizza places were closed) but the dogs did not mind and we'll make it up this week.
Jewel was brought into the shelter as she was running free after breaking loose from her tieout. It was in December during those cold days and it was snowing. She did not have proper shelter or water. The owner did not reclaim her. She seems not to have had a very good life, poor baby, and the shelter did not really want to see her back with the owner. She is a big girl with a large frame, but pretty skinny. She needs to gain at least 10lbs, she should br 80+. She has a gorgeous silky, long coat and looks like a bear, especially her legs and paws. She is eating well, so hopefully she'll be in better shape soon. The owner said she was OK with children 10-12, apparently she was not around younger children. He said that she is OK with some dogs. At the shelter she barked at the little ones, so probably no little dogs (or cats?). Considering her age, she would probably need to be with children who would treat her gently and not climb all over her. She was nose-to-nose at the shelter with another dog, Rex (who is still in need and an awesome boy, please consider helping him) and they both did well. I am keeping her separated for the time being as she was in the "kennel cough room" at the shelter and I don't want anybody elese catching a bug if she has one. The owner said that she hates the crate, which is not true, she is actually very comfy relaxing on the doggie bed in her XL crate. She is settling in a trying to figure out what is going on with her life. It will take around 2 weeks to get her spayed (after she is off the antibiotics for the kennel cough). Samajade, if you are still intersted in her, you could arrange a home visit with a local rescue. We don't have young kids to evaluate her with, but I will be happy to meet somone in the area to see how she does. |
