Betsy - Def not surprising and def treatable. She is so young (only about 1.5 year max) so she has that on her side. Didn't test strong positive which is good, too. Won't be able to get treatment until after the pups are weened and she has been spayed. Will keep her on doxy to sterlize the worms and heartgard until she can be treated. Just more of a pain bc it is so hard on the dog and also, costs lots of $ - it sucks but I will make sure she is taken care of. Also, am lucky bc I know my vet will work with me on costs so at least I won't have to pay full price.
Jax08 - This photo is one of my favs, too - she has such a pretty face :-) She is my girl - she takes breaks often now and follows me around the house. She likes to lay at my feet and LOVES a good ear massage and any treats I will slip her way - LOL - she checks on her pups often and nurses like she should. I will take more pics over the weekend and post a nice update on Sunday evening for everyone. Pups are growing like they should. Katie is half the size of everyone else so we have to look at supplementing her. She is not losing weight, just not as big as the others. She is barely 1 lb, while the rest are closer to 2 lbs. Vet says to keep a close eye on her and if she loses to call her. Already going to pick up some formula for her, just in case.

Also, I forgot to tell everyone that I did let her meet my girls today - Sabra (3 yr GSD) and Sasha (10 yr retriever mix) - everyone gets along great. Nadia is a sweetheart! Obviously, everyone is supervised in the common areas and my girls know that NO ONE goes near her "nursery". Everyone hangs out in the common areas and Nadia is def integrating into the pack very well.

Too bad about the HW but thankfully it is treatable and she is young.

She is so very lucky to have found you, and her HW won't be an issue, I'm sure with the nurturing and love she'll feel while going thru treatment. Prayers for Katie, to grow up strong like her namesake!!!

Echo Dogs also recently had two HW + mommas. Both have weaned their litters and are finishing up treatment. They came through it like troopers - and one was really emaciated and the other was a strong positive. I'm sure she'll be fine. Like Alisa said, it's just more a matter of time and money.
This girl and her pups are beautiful! Terry |
