One of our volunteers, Sandal, who is an angel here on Earth, drove over 5 hours to pick up two adult GSDs from a rural shelter in VA.
She got the two female GSDs loaded into her little Escort wagon and a local low life pulled into the parking lot with 10 six week old GSD mix pups in a big blue tub in the back of his truck. The shelter refused to take the puppies since he would not surrender the mother dog. This crap of a man told Sandal that he would be stopping by the bridge over the river to get rid of the pups. (hopefully he was bluffing but what a **** of a thing to say!) So, of course Sandal takes the tub o'pups and put them in her car. She then went to take one of the adult dogs back into the shelter and ask them if they could hold her for a couple of days for us. The crap of a shelter worker told her NO - the paperwork had been processed and she was signed out. If Sandal did not take her they would put her to sleep immediately. So, Sandal managed to squeeze everyone (all 12 dogs!) into her car and head back to civilization. This is the same volunteer that took in the dog from SC, who gave birth to 12 puppies the day after she arrived. I think Sandal needs to win some sort of award for volunteer of the year.

Lea, what a great volunteer you have there. I hope that every now and then she takes some time for herself and family so she doesn't burn out.
5 hours back with 2 adults and 10 puppies, yikes. |

I talked to the vet yesterday who had given two of them their shots (we have them farmed out to multiple foster homes) and he said they are too cute for words and that they have really sweet temperaments. I have not had the chance to meet any of them just yet.
Hopefully we will have some photos soon!

What an AWESOME person... And what a sad situation, a simple spay surgery could have prevented those ten from even needing rescue, and I wouldn't put it past someone to drop them into a river/dump them in the wood/leave them at a park. They don't care as long as the pups are gone. Unrelated, but when I was about 8-9 I was wayy back in the woods of a nature park with my brothers, this man with two small kids came dumped out a box of three 8 week old or so kittens, sat down and stayed with them until we left, then ran out of there so they couldn't follow. Of course we took all three of them, c'mon, there are snakes, raccoons, foxes, loose dogs, stray cat, owls, and who knows what else waiting for a little kitten... We got them a home in the country and they are now professional mousers in the corn barn.
So yes, he may have really planned on doing something terrible to those poor babies! So God bless this wonderful lady, she saved them... 12 lives in one day... That must have been a stressful ride! |
