Do you remember Hansel & Gretal from Bethlehem, Pa? My husband and I took them in when their owner was going to jail. They were bonded 9yr brother & sister. We were very fortunate that they were adopted by Sue a fantastic volunteer for GS rescue. She always adopts the seniors and just loves them to pieces.
I am sad to report that Hansel went to the bridge this morning. He had developed back problems and was having problems walking. Sue spared no expense to have him diagnosed and treated. He began to suffer and the decision was made to end his pain. Sue and Hansel are what GS Rescue is all about. Sue especially....who takes the seniors and loves them unconditionally. Don and I are very sad at his passing and Sue has lost her best buddy. Hansel is on the left:

What a great picture! They look so happy. I'm so glad that they were adopted into such a wonderful home. Rest in peace, sweet Hansel.

Yes, I too remember this handsome pair! Thank you Sue, (and CampPappy) for giving them such a wonderful home. I am sad to hear about Hansel, but he had a wonderful loving home for the time he had left. You did the right thing for him, he is at the Bridge and running free of pain now. My guys and I ask you to please give his sister an extra cuddle from us, as she is probably missing her buddy.........

Sue is not on this website...but I emailed her to check it out. I think it would do her good to see how many people remember Hansel & Gretal's story. AND how many people honor her for taking in these sweet seniors.
I told her a story about Don's and my ritual at night. When the lights go out...we say....goodnight Axl....goodnight Myla....goodnight Gretchen (passed 8/12/08).....and last night we said.....goodnight Hansel. He will be added to our nightly ritual.

I too remember Hansel and Gretel. They waited long for their forever home, I am happy that they found such a wonderful family.
Thank you Sue for taking them in. I am so sorry for your loss. I took in a couple of discarded seniors myself and I know how it feels when we lose them. Run free hansome Hansel. How is Gretel handling the loss of her friend? I know how bonded they were. |
