Good for little Kaia...lucky girl.
GO! Salmon and Oats-my dogs are doing well on it: http://www.petcurean.com/index.php?page_id=42 Maybe some of these milder Pinnacles? http://www.breeders-choice.com/dog_p.../pinnacled.htm My dogs like fishy foods: http://www.frommfamily.com/products-fs-d-d-salmon.php I don't think any of them are rich. Toss in some Merrick canned, feed her as many times a day as Hector would like to be fed, and she will be healthy in no time!

Good save all! Thanks! Fresh foods like canned salmon, eggs, chicken, etc. would be really good for this sweet girl.

Good job guys! I liked the name Holly, but I really think Kaia suits her. Her poor foot.
I hope that she recovers quickly, it sounds like her preliminary check is good.Kristina |

Yep! DH is going to run by the fancy pet food store in Lexington on his way home and pick something up. He was going there anyway because we're out of Natural Balance for our GSDs, but he's going to call me from the store and I'll run through those suggestions and see what they've got. She IS eating just fine - not too weak for that. I know it's rich, but I couldn't stand to not feed her SOMETHING (I'm getting to be like you Jean - eat eat!), so she's had two smallish handfuls of Innova, which she seemed to enjoy very much. She was very gentle taking them too. I guess I'm not so much like you, or it would have been something infinitely more exciting (triple stack with a side of hashbrowns?). ![]() She drank a lot of water (but not too much) when we got home and is now snuggled on a comforter her in new crate. So far seems like a very sweet dog with a stable temperament who has had a very crummy life. She does the most heartbreaking head move whenever you move your hands - not like a fear aggressive dog, preparing to snap, but like she knows you're going to hit her, and she's not going to stop you, but she's bracing herself. ![]() However, something tells me there's a girl with some personality and spunk in there just waiting to come out. Looking forward to meeting her! ETA - thanks Ruth for the suggestions! I'll get him to swing by the grocery and get some of those too. I think we may even have some canned salmon. All the other doggies are going to be jealous! |

Sorry about the suckitude of this picture - she was damp and it was cold, so I was trying to hurry (that's my story anyway), but here is lovely Kaia with her wonderful benefactor Amanda at the pick up spot. I took some pictures of Kaia at the vet clinic with my phone but I'll have to get DH to show me how to download them when he gets home. Hopefully better and happier looking dog pictures coming as she settles in and starts feeling better!

OMG! Big hugs to everyone who has helped this poor dog. It never ceases to amaze me what these fine animals can endure and yet maintain a good attitude when shown love. Makes me less tolerant of people who want to whine about their troubles in life when we have so much more ability to shape our own existence. This poor girl deserves all the spoiling and love she can possibly be shown.

Ok, still thinking about this sweet girl.
What about a bootie with a liner for that stump?
