I would like to make homemade treats for the dogs this year for Christmas! I have some cookie cutters I'd like to use as well, so if anyone has any recipes they can share with me I'd appreciate it
Liver Brownies
1 cup flour
2 cups potato flakes
1/2 cup chicken broth (can use 1 cup to make more moist)
2 eggs
1lb of liver (beef or chicken)
1 teaspoon garlic powder (I use less)
I use my food processer to chop the liver. Pour into mixing bowl. I put the chicken broth & eggs in the food processer (makes for easier cleaning). Then mix all ingredients together. Put in greased pan (I use 2 cake pans).
Bake for 25-30 minutes.
I have been trying to get my dogs used to our new kitten. I used the last one saturday. Nothing else I tried gets the dogs focus off the kitten like they do! Unfortunately it is a little stinky, I have to make them when my hubby isn't home.
I have a favorite treat recipe, because it's so easy:
2 cups flour
1 cup peanut butter
1 cup milk
1 tbsp baking powder (but I've used baking soda by mistake, and actually prefer the baking soda instead)
Combine dry ingredients and combine wet ingredients, then combine the two. Roll out and cut into whatever shapes. Bake on 375 for about 10 minutes, or until golden brown.
What I have found for treats is dehydrated organ meats. Never saw a dog turn one down. Something about dehydrated meat makes them crazy.
I go to what I call a spanish grocery store and buy pork hearts, kidneys, and throats and regular boneless chicken breasts. Cut them thin, like 1/4 inch thick so they get nice and crunchy. Put them in dehydrator and let them "cook" takes a couple of days depending on how close together they are put. When you check them if they still look shiny they are not done. Once they are not shinny move them around with your hand, if they stick they are not done, if they come off easy they are ready.
I actually have to hide the bags of treats from my girl, she knows how to open the bags and help herself if they are within reach. These are also good for training as you will find they will do anything for a treat
