Barking

My five month old gsd pup barks whenever stray dogs (there are many near our campus) enter our campus. He attempts to even chase them away. He does not bark at wild monkeys but will chase thew away.

However he does not bark to strangers coming to our house. Only occasionally he would bark at strangers who look some what different (eg labourers, or menial workers dressed in dirty clothes) from our regular visitors.

How do i get him to bark whenever a person enters our campus? Will it come as he matures or will he require training by a professional to do so

Barking/agression

Is it normal for 5 to 6 month old gsd pups to have different amount of reaction ( such barking posturing etc.) towards human and other dogs or smaller animals? Can some pups be more aggressive towards dogs and friendly or non aggressive towards human (even new visitors which the pup has not met)?

Well, my Sting used to bark at a cat he sees out of the window And dogs also. I had to train him to be quiet. And he still slips up now and then. Your dog is only 5 months. At that age, it can be excitement barking. He may change as he gets older and will bark at people. And yes, I agree with you that alot depends on the temperament of the dog.
