Advice Needed Please

I have a 3 month old german shepherd pup who loves to play keep away when hes in the backyard. When we take him out to play, he will suddenly find it the best game ever to run around while we frantically chase him to go back inside. Ive tried holding a treat or toy and telling him to come or running the other way for him to chase me but he enjoys keep away game more. its only until hes done running that he'll let us pick him up and take him inside. any advice on what to do would be appreciated.

I personally got a 20' lead for my pups gave them enough running room but it also helped with teaching the recall by giving me something to hold on to/direct them with when playtime was over. Once they came back to me we celebrated like they had done the best thing ever and went inside on a happy note. Hope this helps...

Good advice. They actually sell one that's really thin and lightweight like twine, that way he's not tripping over it when he's bouncing around out doors.

Dexter Bartolomeo -GSD (approx 3 1/2 years)
Fluffy Cornelius - Maltipoo rescue (approx 8yrs)
Squeezette Antoinette- Shih Tzu (17 yrs)

or a flexi lead
reel him in when he is done pottying and you are ready to go inside
praise like the dickens
make yourself be more fun than the activity at hand

Try to find a really high value treat also, and lots of praise. Have fun

Make a game of getting your dog to come to you, and then letting it go play some more. If coming to you always means the fun ends, then there's not much incentive in that. Same thing goes for potty training. As soon as they are done peeing or pooping, don't just wisk them back inside. Let them stay out and play with them for a few minutes.
