Default I am at my wits end!!!!!

I have been at his for 5 weeks now and for the life of me i cannot get my 14 week old GSD potty trained. She holds it in side the crate but cant hold it for 2 mins inside the house i take her out 15-20 mins after she eats, first thing in the morning, right after we play. I even had her in the crate and would ONLY let her out to play outside, eat, and go to the bathroom to see if maybe she gets the concept. Ive heard of dogs going hours inside the house while the owners at work (i know her bladder is small) and NO ACCIDENTS but she can't even hold it for 10 mins. Ive heard she should be trained in 2 weeks TOPS!. Its been 5 WEEKS and she just peed by the door. She associates the door with the bathroom but wont hold it long enough for me to open the thing. I am SO frustrated. Is this normal? Am i doing something wrong?

What do you do to reward her when she goes outside? And when do you reward her?

Where is the crate located? Try keeping it right by the door.

she makes it fine to the door when i let her out of the crate but after she goes outside i would let her be free in the house and would watch her and she would go to the door but wont hold it long enough for me to open it.

Have you tried tether training? I don't let any dog I am potty training have free roam in the house.

I think you need a bigger party when she goes outside. Bring treats and make a huge deal of it. Lots of praise lots of treats immediately after she goes. Also, don't let her out of your sight, each time she goes inside reinforces the behavior. Recognize her body language when she's about to go and get her right out.

There are many articles on it if you google, but basically you tether the puppy to you(i just use a leash) so that way you can catch them before they eliminate in the house. Some say to tether the puppy to something in your home. It works great for potty training..I have used it with a 5 pound stubborn toy breed puppy(super hard to house train) and he got the hang of it quick and had no more accidents in the house. It can be very annoying with them tied to you but it reduces the chance of an accident happening almost by 100%. It takes 5 seconds for a puppy to go chew up something they arent supposed to, or to have an accident on your floor. Tethering is the only way to have a hawks eye watch on them ad be able to catch them before they do something inappropriate.

Plans for Puppy: Tethering | Dogster
