Default Wiping paws

I live in Chicago, the snow started melting just recently and there is a lot of mud in the yard. There is no way I'm letting him inside the house without wiping his paws. The problem is, he won't let me. He bites me, moves a lot to let him go. I don't understand why he hates it so much. I'm not about to fight him so I can clean him so he can come inside like he desperately wants to.

Any ideas how to deal with this?
I would hate to force him. He is almost 10 months.

Start training it as a command inside the house (without doing the wiping). I teach my gang the command 'Paw'. It means I'm going to grab one of your feet and you are going to deal with it. I start them as puppies using lots of treats and gradually wean off the treats.

teach him a down ( lie down). Put out a towel and tell him to 'down,' 'platz,' what ever command you use. Then get the towel and dry paws.

Better to teach him now than fight it for years and years.

I got this thing called the Paw Plunger. It gets the dirt off pretty well, but you still have to wipe the water off the paws.

My GSDs have always been taught a "down stay"....and that happens every time in the situation you describe...I'm in MN and it is sloppy outside. It seems to be an easy enough command for them to grasp while they still have the leash and collar on them....they go from a down stay to a ..rollover...their feet and belly are cleaned and then I release them with their collar off....everybody is happy.

I trained Ava the "wipe your feet" command. She will wipe her feet on the mat by the back door before walking any further. (It helps that the treats are close to the back door, so training this was fairly easy!)
