Default Licking!

Baron who is about five months now will not stop jumping up and licking the mouth/face of my 4yo GSD. Poor Harley tolerates it up until a point but then growls. Then Baron pees a bit and lets Harley sniff his genitals.

I need to make this stop. First, Poor Harley is being driven insane. Second, Baron is leaving a pee trail all over the house because he does this all day long.

Any suggestions?

Bella - GSD mix (3/21/10)
Harley - GSD (2/5/10)
Baron - GSD (10/13)

I would try redirecting Baron with a squeaky toy - the furry kind - encourage him to bite that and lick it.

Stop it. Redirect like Mary Beth says.

It's not your older dogs 'job' to put up with it, so just figure out how to stop it. Not yelling or anything, but MANAGING.

I'd be doing a whole lot more of ---> Top Training Expectations for Puppies with your puppy so he's too worn out to pester Harley!

separate the two dogs .

Baron the younger dog is throwing signals of submission at the older dog . The licking at the other dog's mouth area is a calming signal, an appeasement. The peeing is his submission.

Expect a fight . Conflict already exists.

The younger dog is not going to develop to the best of his potential , because he is the perpetual underdog.

His anxiety in his position in the household is being reinforced. And Harley the older dog's position is being amplified -- . A looser and a bully.

Licking mouth of an older dog is a sign of appreciation and obsequious attempts to please a senior in the doggy language. Urinating comes out excitement, very common in puppies. Seems, your older dog doesn't want to accept your puppy, who tries to gain his favours in vain. What definitely will help you - long walks off leash ( having them leashed wouldn't have any effect) on a daily basis, concentrate your attention on your older dog, give him commands, play ball with him and ignore your puppy. Just avoid feeding treats, it may cause misconception. Train them simultaneously to bring you ball in turn a while later. Baron should see in practice you as a leader whom his idol Harley obeys, because he thinks that Harley is a top dog and rules over you.

Security Question
While balancing on a piece of wood, two inches by four inches known as a 2x4, john and his friend sally both spotted a dalmatian inside a truck with sirens, headed to put out a fire. State what the 2x4 is made of.
