Does anyone else's puppy do this?

Mishka chomping - YouTube
Mishka makes chomping sounds when she gets excited, and sometimes just walking through the house if she sees my cat. Most of the time she doesn't bark, just chomps.

Mine does ghost mouthing once in awhile. It's like I really want to bite you but know I'm not supposed to.

I have seen Malinois do this when they are excited.

Looks like she's learning how to synchronize her mouth movement with sound. Lol so cute!

i call it "pre bark" :)

Hahaha!! So funny! My girl, before he got her "big girl bark", would just kind of blow air out and kind of snort...she will still do it if she's not sure if it's worthy of a bark:)

If you mean the snapping mouth with no sound, yes Jasmine has done this since she was a puppy and still does it at 2 years old. When she is excited and waiting for you to throw or kick a ball she will repeatedly snap her mouth shut so forcefully that it is amazing that it doesn't hurt her.

I've often wondered how common this is in GSDs. None of the other GSDs I've known have done it.

Air snapping!

I remember that.
Oh, how I miss it!

my 12 month old does that or rather jaw clinching to tell me " hurry up with that ball toss, will you.."

Or break teeth, Zoey does this.

Yes....when he was wrestling with his sister. Also when he is really excited for the soccer ball.
