Puppy aggresive toward little kids

My 13 week puppy seems to nip at younger kids. He nips and chases is this aggresive behavior or him trying to herd and how do I correct this type of behavior

Seems like normal puppy behavior to me. Try redirecting him to a toy and see if that helps

It is just prey drive. Young kids pretty much simulate injured prey. They scream they run and they flail and they squirm like crazy when a little pup goes after them. You might as well put them at the end of a bait pole.

You should probably just manage it. Contrary to popular believe young pups and kids do not mix.

If your puppy is only 13 weeks make sure to stop the habit as soon as possible or she may grow up with it.

Here is a great website link about it. I also suggest looking at some other forums in the aggression and puppy area.

More than likely it is just normal prey behaviour, tell the kids to stop running and redirect he puppy onto a toy, no need to damage your relationship with the dog by correcting it for normal behaviour. Limit and supervise the interaction with children until the children can be taught how to interact with the dog. 13 weeks is a baby, get enrolled in a good puppy class that has puppy playtime if available.

It's true. I've got 9, 5, & 3year old.boys and if I ever need a reminder that my 14 week pup has prey drive, I take him out of his crate. Ugh. They think it is so fun to run away screaming, yet when Yogi jumps on them and bites/mouths on them I immediately hear "Mom!!!" *smack my head* I have to usually wait til I get my boys engrossed in an activity before I take pup out --- otherwise it's overwhelming for me and puppy AND the kids. ;) I like to think of it as playing at this point but definitely keep within arms reach to redirect because those mouths are full of needles and kids don't understand.

At this age control the dog's environment, ignore or redirect bad behaviour, reward good behaviour. You train a 13 week old pup differently than a pup that is around 6 months of age when the pup becomes a teenager.

Summer it sounds as if you have your hands full, I am currently raising a 12 week old pup and am going through some of the same things. In a normal environment this behaviour stops. Teach the children not to take things away from the pup and to exchange things that the puppy has that it is not supposed to.

Crate the kids.
