Am I just lucky or doing something wrong??
Hi,
Half of me is saying I should count my blessings, the other half is waiting for the storm....and I don't believe I am on here asking (questioning) whether I should be worried about my pups behaviour....but here I am. Kyra is 14 weeks old and so far her behaviour is perfect!! (hence my concern). She has slept in her crate from night one without a whimper or a toilet break....and has done so every night since. Occasionally I let her sleep on my bed, which she does without any 'accidents'. And so far (touch wood) she has had no accidents inside. She does like to play bite...but only when she is tired and will happily stop if a pat or cuddle is offered instead. She is learning everything I challenge her with and the rest of the time she is happy to lay around like a mature, calm dog. Should I be worried about all this? Is this just the calm before the storm?? |
some puppies are easier than others, you may be lucky to have a wonderful puppy or you may wake up one morning to a little monster LOL
I've had a few dogs that as puppies, were no problems what so ever and never really had a 'monster':) |
Tessa was slower to house break, but as to settling down and being calm, she was great. We never really went through the landshark stage. She's never required an extreme amount of exercise. She'll play fetch until I stop the game, but we've never had to walk her for miles to keep her peaceful in the house.

OP- are you SURE you have a GSD puppy?? Just kidding! We can't all win the jackpot!! :p |
I know how you feel. I brought Dexter home, puppy # 3 for us, and I was soooo ready and prepared for all the puppy antics this time around. But everything with him has been so easy and he acts like an adult dog most of the time. He was potty trained within the first few days and out of the crate. He's never destroyed anything and knows more commands and tricks than any of my other dogs I have ever lived with. :-) I teach him something once or twice, and he gets it right away. He's a little puppy sized genius.
You are doing everything right, you were just really lucky. :-) |
Are you exercising her much? My dog is 10 times better in the house when exercised properly - which I only found out was the answer to many of my problems a few days ago.

She stays (and probably plays) in the yard with my Bernese while I'm work and in the evening we play, practice some obedience and do a half hour walk. Maybe I have just hit the jackpot!!

My dog was great at 14 weeks too.
At 15 weeks she turned into a land shark and stayed that way for a couple of months. Pretty much a brat until about 8 months. You never know. By age 1 she was the sweetheart, great dog that we were waiting for. Of course, it required a lot of 'interaction'. |
