Bites my legs
I think Max tries to herd me.. but where?
I play with him and run and or even go for a walk and he bites my legs and it hurts.. I feel like a sheep..lol |
When Max does nips at your legs, stop - say sternly NO! then redirect by throwing a ball or stick and saying in a happy voice "this is yours".
|
Is a correction a good idea here? tug on the collar/leash?
Then redirect? Sometimes I find the pup just prefers whatever part of my body it is.... |
The correction didn't work with my Sting - it just ramped him up - then he'd grab the leash. What did work with him, was to stop, say sharply No! - throw a stick or ball and say happily " this is yours" and he would chase after that. He also did it off leash, usually n the morning outside in the yard - I learned to wear boots and have my jeans tucked in. It didn't last long and he did learn quickly.

wear long pants. how old is your dog/pup? with some direction
and training your pup will learn besides how much can a pup really hurt? |
This isn't herding.
He is in prey drive. He is barely over 4 months old. This will continue until he gets older. Play with him with toys, try a flirt pole or throwing a fuzzy toy, then having another one so he will give you the first one. PS-- at this age, redirection is better than correction. He is a puppy and wants to play! |
"How much can a pup really hurt?"??? I dunno...I could count the scars on my legs. I could tell you that a few times I had blood dripping down my leg...but I already know that "training and socializing" is the fix.

Lol- how much can a puppy really hurt?- that made me laugh!!
4 months, 40 pounds and insanely sharp teeth- yeah- I have scars! Jag- I agree with you!! And for some reason the bites (all in play- not his fault because he is learning and doing great) but those bites are worse than major paper cuts! |
