We recently went to the spca and low and behold there is a little ten month old white gsd female. We have a 1 1/2 year old make who we wanted to get a companion for. The pipes whole personality was timid and scared but, Warmed up to us when we took her into a room. She was hit by a car so her face had a bunch of cuts on it. in all I felt she was scared in the shelter but really connected with people. Later we did the dog test, our dog was indifferent. They saw each other sniffed and then ours went about his business smelly everything. When my dog went back to her she flared her teeth and snapped, which my dog backed away.
The shelter staff said we could have her providing we put work into her. Im all for it because I'm thinking the behavior she displayed was just fear. Advice??? Should I just pass her up. There was another applicant and that dog did not pass the dog test. I dont know details but it was the same day. |

Shelters can be really stressful places for pups. It is hard to get a good read on their personality in one short meeting.
With that said, couple the fact the dog is in a shelter with the recent traumatic event of having been hit by a car, I would say that it is a very good sign that dog was seeking a connection with people. To me, it sounds like it will work. Odds are if you bond with the dog and provide leadership, your pup and dog will get on just fine! In the end, you kind of have to go with your gut and be ready to put in the training that you would with any new dog! Best of luck! Best of luck! |
