Puppy humping
My German Shepherd puppy is 8 weeks old tomorrow. He has humped my leg twice now when I take him outside for exercise. He just started this behaviour. Is this normal for such a young pup?
|
Yes its normal. Just redirect him and play with him. If he humps something else, redirect and play with him.
|
It is so embarrassing when your puppy begins madly humping people's legs, you, other animals in your home, and just about anything else that incites your puppy into humping.
|
Yep it's normal...with both females and males equally. It isn't a sex hormone thing. It's usually a dominance thing.
Either way it's normal, and it will pass. |
Glad it is normal
Thank you all for reassuring me that his humping behaviour is normal.
|
Hahahaha yeah my vet said that they can start that early. I asked her because my 9 week old (now 10 weeks) was getting little puppy erections. She told me to expect lots and lots of humping.
Embarrassing but whatchya gonna do? I really dont want to neuter him till he's a little older. lol Good luck! |
Yes normal..but say NO and redirect with something else as it can become and annoying habit. It is a dominance thing and try to control it now.

Puppy humping
Glad to hear my little guy isn't alone. I was getting concerned, he's only 14 weeks old and the last couple of days he's been trying to jump on my 8 month old girl. I want to wait until he's older any matured before we take him in.
