Hello!! My first post!!
Whoohhh! So, my sweet girl, Cora, is 12 weeks old. The breeder we got her from did an amazing job socializing her pups. Teaching them. Started potty training etc. and "shake" was one of these commands. I personally HATE shake!! Because when our dogs would get excited they would paw at you. Our small people lol and it hurt! So, we stopped teaching our pets the shake command. Since she was already yaught this and it's been engrained. She paws a lot. When trying to bait her, while attempting to manual stack her she paws at my hand and the bait obviously this isn't good lol Is there any way to teach not to shake? Like you would for "speak"? ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |

I don't think you are seeing a 'shake'. Instead I think your puppy is trying to communicate with their 'stupid human'
in the only way they know, poking w/their nose and pawing w/their foot. With no ability to speak, there is a limited way our pups can communicate. IF this was a 'shake' trick and you never rewarded the behavior would naturally fade away. Sounds more like a bored pup full of energy that wants play/walk/treats/interaction/love/something from you and w/no words has to resort to the paw. You get a chance to start up with Engagement - Key to Training <--click that and click -->Teaching a trick is the least important part of teaching tricks
