Every morning when I get up I find Huxley has amassed a collection of random items from around the house on his bed. He has never even damaged anything much less destroyed it. He just seems to like to pick things up and bring them to his bed during the night.
Sometimes he puts objects up next to my pillow seemingly as a way to say "good morning" when he sees that I am waking up. We don't mind this behavior, since he is not destructive and we never leave unsafe stuff out- he seems drawn to kitchen towels, books, small wicker baskets- but I really haven't ever seen anything like it before. He's done this since he was first allowed regular bed overnight privileges at around 4 - maybe 5 months old. So how "unique" is my dog? My husband and son think he's a real odd duck and I am hoping I can tell them someone else has a GSD who does this too! |

Seven hides things in her "cave" under our bed. Usually socks and underwear. She doesn't have overnight freedom yet, so she has to stash stuff during the day when we aren't paying attention.
We had a kitten once who had a thing for socks. We would wake up in the morning and the kitten would have dragged every loose sock she could find downstairs to the living room. They'd be strewn across the living room floor. It was maddening and endearing. Sent from my iPhone using PG Free

Tuke use to go into my daughters room and bring DD stuffed animals into the lv room. She would pile them up and just lay next to it. On Tukes first Christmas, someone gave my DD 6 stuffed animal hand puppets. Those became her favorite, no matter where we put them, she would find them.

My youngest likes to gather toys on her dog favorite dog bed in the living room. Occasionally, I find additional objects she found that she wanted to "claim" by adding to her treasure pile (most recently, an old sneaker lifted from my closet -- not chewed on, just "claimed"). Occasionally, my DH goes by and scatters the toys all over the house, and she starts the process of reassembling the treasure pile. She's not nasty when our other dogs take one of the toys, but she will often will sneak it back onto her pile when the other dog is done.

Your dog sounds so cute! Our Molly used to collect ours shoes in the middle of the upstairs hallway, but not destroy them. She still likes to collect rocks and pinecones and 2 1/2 years old.
