I sent my 5 month old pup to a board and train lady. She seems real good. She told me that my boy was drinking his pee in the crate and that was either a uti or a new behavior he was trying out. He has never done that with me and I've had him for 2 months and he has had no accidents in the house for at least 2 weeks and he always has a full urine stream when he pees outside, so I know he isnt drinking it in my place.. Trainer was taking him on a leash to pee , where I always let him go free in the yard. any ideas? should I be worried? take him home?

Be more worried about the fact he seemed house broken before you dropped him off, and while he was there not only started peeing in his crate again, but was in it long enough to start drinking it.
Don't board for the next few months. And I bet you never see the behavior again. I know I don't ever board my dogs but instead have a support network of friends and family who know and love my dogs so always take them. I take their dogs too. Since I socialize my dogs with these people and their dogs, we know they get along. Since I go to dog classes, they know my dogs generally behave. And since some of my friends I met in dog class it's a win/win for everyone!

This wasnt a boarding situation. I'd never board.. The trainer is doing training and he is staying with her and her service dogs. VEt says probably not a uti. It is probably that he was so used to peeing off leash in my yard and that he never peed while on a leash. while the trainer had him on a leash waiting for him to pee .. I told the trainer to let him pee off leash for now and this will probably work out ok..

I suspect he wasnt in the crate too long.. I know when I had him here at home.. he went in the crate at 11pm and when I took him out at 7:30 the next morning he was perfect and had a strong urine stream. I took him out at 7:30 bec that was when he'd make some whining to alert me he had to go.. otherwise he was sleeping.. he is 21 weeks old now.. ( 5 months and 1 week)

what's the difference in your dog staying with
someone for training and he's staying with someone for boarding. either way he's staying with someone. why can't you go to class and learn to train your dog? you training your dog is a good experience for you, your dog and the bonding between both of you. Quote:

Good point about the training/boarding.. The reason I did this is because I have to leave home in feb for about 5 days and I thought instead of having a pet sitter come 3-4 times a day, that I could get him some training now. So this visit is a test to see if he will be okay. If things go wrong now. I can always pick him up immed. If things went wrong in feb., I wouldn;t have that ability. so this is a test. I will be doing training in classes as my pup will eventually be certified to go to hospitals, nursing homes, etc. At this trainers home.. on 7 acres. he is with 2 other service dogs.and 1 untrained dog .
