Default Playing or fighting?

I'm boarding my clients puppy for Christmas. They have asked me how to handle the pup and I kept insisting on crate training, talked to them a couple of times. and i thought she was. turns out she's not. she has severe separation anxiety can not handle the crate unless no one is around. she's right in front of me screaming her head off inside the crate right now.

Dumpty on the other hand is a very "cool" dog, when i let them play together (supervised and only in 5 minutes increments) he seem not bothered by her nipping and growling at all. I know that's a good thing, but I'm just wondering if I'm missing any signs I should watch out for.

Oh and if it matters she's almost 45 days older than him.

Well, the GSD puppy is adorable is 100% displaying proper puppy play behavior. Thanks for posting the video because that's a huge help....

The other dog isn't (in my opinion) quite as comfortable with the situation. Whether a bit overwhelmed with the size of the GSD or just not used to playing...... I'd think I'd definitely keep an eye on the 2 for the time being cause you want to get that white pup more comfortable and not more stressed. Short play sessions where the white dog can more easily escape.

Exercise outside the house would be great. More calming with all the other distractions and not quite so much FOCUS on each other. Walks together are really great. This is me with my friends dogs:

Thanks Maggie Rose.
That's what I though too. the pup was not properly socialized with other dogs or people. they got her when she was 5 weeks and they're German and just came to Egypt this August. not many friends.

Outside is a great idea, tomorrow we will be going to the beach anyways. Today they played a bit better, she had already scouted the house and knew where to hide, her tail was more waggy and a lot less growling. They have to be supervised anyways cause I live in a very tiny apartment I can see them everywhere LOL He still likes to sit on her though and I think it's hilarious but i discourage him. They used to walk together fine, but since she got here yesterday all they want to do is play and it was very hard walking them in high traffic (I live in a busy city). maybe in a day or two when she settles down they can start going on walks together again.

ETA: and I love watching videos of Bretta and Glory.. they are amazing!!

Looks like puppy play to me
The only thing I noticed is the smaller dog seems to only get really "upset" when it's leash is stepped on. I would remove it's leash during playtime just to be safe... I can see the little dog getting hurt and he can also have a better chance of getting away if need be.

This is totally playing IMHO. The white dog is a little more nervous, but initiates playful nips, rolls on its back (!), jumps up, wags its tail. These two will wear each other out then fall asleep together. Obviously watch them since the white dog may not be well-socialized, but it certainly looks socialized enough to be getting along well with the GSD.

The GSD is playing and the little one is stressed out by the situation. I wouldn't let the GSD bother the little one just yet. I would take them both on walks together, and allow calm supervised play, but I wouldn't allow full on aggressive play just yet. The little one is unsure and doesn't seem very comfortable. She is standing stiff legged, lips curling, growling etc. The GSD displays all the play behavior signs: bowing, wagging tail, bouncing around etc.

Thanks for all your inputs, my GSD has been very well socialized with his breeder and then with me since I got him 3 weeks ago. He's a pretty good pup other than the fact that he pretty much walks with his mouth open waiting for anything to enter so he can bite it LOL he does have a soft bite (as soft as puppy teeth can be) but he can get excited easily and start biting harder and then i either stuff a toy or lock my self in my bedroom for a minute till he calms down.

The reason she's on leash is because she's not potty trained and she's basically tethered to me when she's not crated. My son got our GSD out of the crate before I had time to remove her leash. But normally during play time she does not have her leash on.
