OMG, I don't know what got into her tonight.
I took Kira for her usual morning walk in a local park, and she was fine. We went back around 4 PM, and she was a TYRANT. She pulled, and would not respond to anything. She barked like a mad dog at everyone and every dog that was in sight distance. She was so high strung, she was doing spins as she was barking. Her hackles were up from head to tail. As I was walking with her, people were clearing the area, thinking she was a wild, out of control GS...ahem,.. puppy ![]() Her bark was deep, loud, and rapid. Then as one guy walked over to see if his dog would calm her down, she just sniffed the dog, and went into play mode. What the heck was that all about? I'd be concerned if my wife or daughter was walking her, and she acted that way. There's no way either of them would have been able to hold her back. |

She's growing up. This is the best time to REALLY get serious about training consistently before you develop bad behaviors - my girl and I are working through the same thing now.

My girl is showing those signs lately. We would be walking calmly and then boom she'll lay on the grass, then I say ok, ok let's go. Then she gets this mad look and starts running around like MAD and I think where did this sudden burst of energy and desire to play come along? Then when I dont respond she jumps and bites me all over. I get she wants to play but those bites hurt.
She's almost six months so i really have to step up my training game. I've just taught her how to heel (indoors, she can't do it with distractions yet) but everytime she goes crazy, I have a VERY high end treat and makes put her in a down. I make sure to never make eye contact with her when she's crazy. That's a big instigator.

sounds like she was really excited to play with the other dogs.
train and socialize daily, several times a day. start training around other dogs. set up play dates and expose your dog to many dogs. make sure your wife and daughter are involved in the dog training. how old is your daughter?

This is a puppy that was pinned by an adult GSD about 6 weeks ago. Ive been socializing her daily, and giving her lots of one on one with stable dogs. She seems have come out of her fear for larger dogs. The excitement seems to be a desire to romp with all these dogs that she sees. This could be partly my fault, since I've been spending so much time socializing her with other dogs. As another poster once mentioned, it would be a good idea to "neutralize" my dog, when it comes to playing with other dogs. Work, work, work. |
