Default Differences between GSD pups and other breeds?

I've mostly had GSD's and was wondering about your knowledge about how our puppies differ in behavior with other pups? For example, do our pups usually play rougher and nip more? Are they more active than most other pups? More strong minded? I sometimes watch the "puppy Bowl" on TV and it is boring compared to GSD's playing. Mine play rough.

It depends on what you are comparing them to. I've fostered GSD pups, GSD mix pups, and a some non-GSD pups over the years. And it also depends on the dog.

In general, my PB GSD foster puppies have been far easier to train overall.

I have had mix pups with way more energy and rowdiness. I have adult dogs though who do not tolerate too rough play and shape the puppy's behavior nicely for me. They also do this at the Puppy Bowl - remove pups that are overwhelming the others with their play. They don't want people to sit at home cringing, and I am betting that they audition for play type so that the pups there are middle of the road in their behaviors, since this is a totally new environment for them and you don't want one to bully or shut down.

Do you mean pups off different breeds? If so then yes, I have found they play and act differently from other pups.
I have owned St. Bernards, terriers, Labs and various mixes in the past.
St. Bernards are much easier in my experience, sleeping long, deep and often. They can be a bit boring in the first few months of their lives as small amounts of exercise really tuckers them out. They dont tend to be very mouthy and their play is more pushing on you and throwing their weight around then biting.
Terriers are very energetic from the get go but because they are smaller the mouthing isn't as painful. They can get to high places from a young age (the back of the couch for example) so puppy proofing is a little harder.
GSD's seem to be the most mouthy breed and stronger willed then pups of other breeds. Their play is loud and forceful. The biting stage lasts twice as long in my experience.
Saying that, obedience training seems to go much quicker with GSD's so thats a plus.
GSD's can be quite a shock to the system when you are used to other breeds

I only have experiences with Luna, my GSD (likely mixed). We got her when she was 10 weeks.

I've recently been hearing people on the all breed board I frequent complaining about all the things their puppies have destroyed...

Luna was actually really good about not destroying THINGS. She chased the cats and nipped the heck out of our arms and legs, but she didn't do anything like eat our laptop, destroy our shoes, etc. She would rip apart a paper bag or box... but nothing too valuable.

I would also note that she was always crated when we were gone.. but so are these other breed puppies that are destroying things.

As far as different breeds having different playstyle.. I have noticed that the more drivey breeds seem to have a very rough and tumble style, where some "softer" breeds play more quietly. However, I do think it depends on the puppy. My friend has a Golden Retriever puppy and she has no problem keeping up with my GSDs and Rottweiler. She was one of the bravest, most energetic, and rambunctious pups at puppy class. She is from a great breeder and has a very solid temperament.

My Luna came from the shelter and was either a BYB pup or an oops pup... either way not from solid lines. She hid under the bench during puppy class and had to play with the small breed puppies because she was scared. After a few classes, she became more brave and became fast friends with a Rottweiler puppy, but that was only AFTER a very dominant, bad tempered pup was removed from play. The whole dynamic changed in the group of puppies after the "bully" was removed (a BYB Viszla pup)... dogs that were formerly shy started coming out to play.

Interesting how just one pup can affect the entire group.

I found my terriers were "stuff" destroyers. They like picking things up and shaking them like prey. They are so small and quick as puppies that the can grab something in a flash and hid in a well hidden place to chew it up.
My St Bernards were counter surfers. By the time they are 6 or 7 months old they can reach the counter tops without much of a stretch. They can consume large amounts of food quickly if not caught. Cujo ate a dozon eggs and a loaf of bread in the 5 min he was left alone in the kitchen lol.
Cujo was a bit of trouble in puppy class too. He liked to body slam the smaller pups and paw at them so we were very careful.
