Okay, my 4mth old pup refuses to pee in the rain. Now, she loves water otherwise, catches water from the hose, digs in her water bowl, plays in the tub ( I add about an inch of water), and has even jumped into the shower with me repeatedly, but it was raining today and she played outside but did not do her business out there. I even stood out there with her for 15 minutes and figured she didn't have to go, so the minute we walked in the house, she peed on the rug. An hour later she stood by the back door, so I let her out, kept the door open and even walked out there, but she just sniffed and dug a hole in the rain, stayed another 10 minutes, came in an peed on the hardwood floor by the door, then did it again after I took her out. My husband took the leash and figured that she may pee in the carport, the only covered area we have, but no.
I am Soooooo frustrated I have no idea what to do to remedy this situation.

I do the same thing.
When it rains, I coat/umbrella up, we go out for a walk UNTIL the pee/pooing is done and I have to be there for my puppy party. Do you have a 'go peepee' 'go poopies' type of command in place? Such a great time saver when you only have a sec to make sure you pup goes. I just continuously ramble 'go peepees' while making my puppy move around PLUS when they do squat I ramble with the 'GOOD peepees GOOD poopies'. This really does mean that my dogs will humor me and 'go' when I start the ramble. Cause they know we aren't going in or moving on or doing anything fun until they squat! Helps me get out of the rain faster (and they do too). ![]()

I could be completely wrong....given her age and the fact that rain doesn't stop her from playing or anything else, is it possible the house training just isn't rock solid yet? Our older dog won't "go" in the rain either....but that is because he won't even go outside in the rain. He will literally hold it until he just can't hold it anymore, run out and go and run right back in.

Some dogs just don't like to pee in the rain. Wolfie is 22 months and still won't pee in the rain. He would rather hold it all day. I tried an umbrella and even a rain coat for him. He just doesn't like it and only goes when he cant hold it anymore.

Same issue here. Cheyenne LOVES water. Will jump in ANY puddle no matter how small, loves going swimming, will attack the water coming out of a hose and get covered in water in the process...but rain...geesh! You'd think she was being attacked the way she carries on. It can even be just a little drizzle..and it is the end of the world for her! She will hold it until she can't stand it anymore..then run out...go real quick and run back in!

My dog is three and we still have that problem in the rain. She will ring the bell to go out, stop if there is a single rain drop and depending on how badly she has to go she will run to her spot, or she will turn around and want back in. Does not like to potty in the rain.
When I take her out before my bedtime I take her to her potty spot and she will just stand there with her sad dog face on not wanting to go. I have to tell her to go pee and she does. I want my husband to build a cover for her but he is not interested in doing that. |

She'll get over it. And I'm sure that not being 100% housebroken yet has a lot to do with it too. If she'll play in the rain, she'll pee in the rain, once she gets the idea that she is ONLY to do her business outside.
We got Halo in the middle of January, so I was taking her out in the rain a lot until we got her housebroken. She wasn't keen on rain, she'd come from Connecticut and from the time she started going outside there was snow on the ground so that's where she was used to doing her business. We have no snow, so that probably confused her at first, and she wasn't familiar with rain either. I'd take her out and she'd run back into the garage and pee in there. Now she'll hang out in the pouring rain, sometimes I have to make her come back inside because she's having too much fun out there.
