This is not about my puppy, this is about my sister in law's puppy (Knuckles' littermate). Her puppy, Thunder, wants NOTHING to do with being in the house. She can't figure out why. She takes her other 2 GSD's in the house at random times during the day and at night (they are sleeping in the garage right now, though, with Thunder because she has Thunders crate out there. No, I don't agree with that. Normally they would sleep in the house though.) She had to physically pick up Thunder to bring him in the house. As soon as she puts him down, he bolts for the door and wants to go back out. This happens every time she tries to bring him in. Her dogs spend equal time in & out, they aren't strictly outside dogs. He would rather stay outside by himself rather than go in the house with the family & the other 2 dogs.
The only thing that makes sense to me is that she has his crate out there and he thinks he belongs out there, but you would think he'd follow the other dogs in the house?

some dogs just want nothing to do with being inside. Most of ours growing up wanted in for a minute, get a treat, then back out the door they went. We've had a couple who hated coming inside, and refused to do so, even in the midst of a blizzard.
he could be in a phase, he may just not like being indoors, or maybe he thinks the garage is his place. Sounds like she's gonna have to do a lot of treating to get him to know that being inside is awesome. |

It could have something to do with the method she used with potty training. The pup thinks it's supposed to be outside.
My 2 year old male GSD likes to be outside when the weather is cool. He'll wake me up in the middle of the night just to go lay out in the yard. (Not cool!)

thats what I'm thinking. I told her just to put the crate back in the house, but she doesn't want to hear him whine. I even told her that I don't hear Knuckles from 9pm - anytime after 5am and he's right next to my bed!

My Schipperke is like that. He mainly is an outside dog because he just won't come inside. I can't grab him any more because he'll try to bite me, so I just leave him most of the time. He used to come inside all the time and love it, but now I can only get him to come inside at night to sleep.

Sounds to me like she hasn't been spending enough time with him and he isn't bonding with her.
