My attitude is, your dog is being starved for attention and needs some serious and PROLONGED play time. Going for a walk sometimes is not enough. Dog parks are great for dogs to loose their built up energy. If you can't do that maybe playing with with a tennis ball. But this dog needs to run and run alot. Just playing tug a war is not enough, German Shepherds need lots of play time. Put it this way, your dog is 5 years old in human age, now how would a 5 year old act if you were to lock them in a cage ??? PS, your the boss make sure she knows she is hurting you and she won't do that anymore she is just dying for your time and affection. Remember praise her when she does good it really does help. You just have to spend more time with her.

She's still really a baby. So exercise exercise exercise. Car rides. Socialization. Exercise. Hiking, swimming. Exercise.

You need to stop the interaction with the cat right now. If there is blood being drawn this is a serious issue that needs to be addressed before your pup gets even larger. I'd say NO play right now. When they start, just quietly go to your pup, take her by the collar and quietly crate her for a time out for at least 15 min. No yelling, just adds to the excitement. Calmly get her, take her to the crate, time out.

Have you signed her up for dog classes yet? HUGE help. The routine, mental and physical stimulation, socialization.....

I definetly don't believe that she is being starved for attention. I see people once a week if even, otherwise I am occupied with Vida unless she is sleeping. I get home from work, we go for a 90 minute jog and train through the park. A few hours later, after she gets up and I get up, we play in the house and yard and usually go explore around the park again. I let her our with my moms dog because she can have a lot more fun with him that bringing a toy back to me and chasing it. Come back home, give her lunch and make sure she rests after lunch (to avoid bloat, aswell)
I sleep for a few more hours. I work graveyards so she's going to have to get over not being able to play with me for 3 hours. She is usually out in the living room chewing on a bone and sleeping, supervised by my mom. I get up, get ready for work. Feed her, walk her, play with her. Leave for work. She stays out of the crate until my mom goes to bed about 3-4 hours after I leave for work so this is around 12-1am that she is crated.

I rush home after work (off at 7.) And I am usually home by 8, give or take 15 minutes. Then we do it all over again until I have a day off. Daycare is not an option at this point because I don't trust people enough. The daycare I worked at does not pick up and drop off dogs that are out of the area, which I am.
For the hours I work, I am sure enough time is being spent with her. I know it was just your opinion but I was a bit offended by it. Not looking for argue about it (things heat up easillllllly on here)
When she bites me for attention she is not going to get it.

She is not in puppy classes or anything because I have no means of transportation for her. She does private training, however.

It's not about you having to spend every waking hour entertaining her. Not the QUANTITY of the time.

It's the QUALITY of the interaction. REAL off leash tears for an hour will tire my pups out more then 4 hours of me just playing with my pup in the house/yard. Putting my dog in the car, driving somewhere new, meeting lots of NEW people is completely different from the same family friends in the house. Training in a NEW place with new distractions is also COMPLETELY different then the training we do alone at home with our dogs.

This is what I HAVE to do with my 5 month old dogs or they DRIVE ME NUTS TOO!

I have to do that with my five year olds or they drive me nuts and crazy.

They need to be worked on a regular basis and they need to be challenged, physically as well as mentally or they go wild and do things they otherwise wouldn't do, like going through the trash, killing shoes, going through dirty laundry, etc.

I definetly try to explore new things with her. I can't really have her offleash anywhere because she isn't trained enough for that yet. I have a 50ft leash for her at the park when we play fetch at the park, that is the best I can do unless I can trust her offleash. We are going hiking in May and I know I'm excited about it.. I know she will be THRILLED as well. I try to take her around where I know a lot of people will be. The park is espeically good in the morning because a lot of people walk their dogs, and it's not always the same people! We still go past the schools when they are off class or before class. I am studying for my L right now so I can drive around with her and take her to realllllllllly new places that she has never seen before. I would love to take her to beaches and lakes, but we take what we can get. I totally understand the concept of her becoming bored doing the same thing over and over again.

How do I challenge her, mentally?

teach her tricks. Get a book like Silly dog tricks and give her jobs in and around the house. That way you don't have to travel and keep her occupied and entertained the same way.

Tracking also is a very good way to keep them physically as well as mentally challenged.

I missed when the dog classes start? That's a huge help..

Did you start clicker training yet? Great help cause WE learn new skills as well as our pups..

Why teach tricks?

Teaching a trick is the least important part of teaching a trick

I am sorry if I offended you because that surely was not my intention. I guess I just spoil my dog and it sounds like that is not the issue. Their is one line in my singnature about being his whole life I always think about that. And yes they do go through you basic teenager stage.
