Bella's eyes are worrying me. Yesterday I noticed they were reddish instead of white when I opened her eye, and thought maybe something had gotten into them and was irritating them. However, today they are still red and she's been itching them randomly throughout the day. She's not squinting at all, though...Any ideas what could be going on with her? Should I put some saline into them to try and flush them out and make her more comfortable? I'm being a worry wart now! Help, please!!!
![]() What is the most common cause for red itching eyes in puppies? I know my cats did not scratch her, so it has to be something else???

Allergies?
I had a Westie that would get terribly red eyes with very puffy lids every summer. He was allergic to the grass. Do a search here for benadryl here in the forums. I have heard its commonly given to dogs for allergic reactions. I dunno about actual environmental allergies. |

Could be allergies or conjunctivitis started.

P.S. She had flea allergies, and I used Frontline Plus but it was not successful. So, I used Revolution two weeks ago and her rashes are almost completely gone now, but could this be because of her allergies? Maybe could she have food allergies to an ingredient in her puppy food? I feed her Iams Smart Puppy Proactive Health Large Breed...? I may be getting ahead of myself here, but honestly I don't if maybe her eyes have been red for longer and I just never noticed.

I would try the Benadryl and see if it helps.I wouldn't try to cross the food bridge yet.

My cat had conjunctivitis when her FHV flared up, and her eyes were swollen and
...I'm not sure if it's the same for dogs, but Bella's eyes haven't watered at all, and are not swollen. Maybe she has a food allergy to the Puppy Chow she was eating before I got her. I've almost reduced it to nothing now, but she still has a little bit in her Iams. Or it could be the obnoxious amount of dander that's floating around in GA this time of year...whatever it is, I'm freaked, and most likely will take her to the vet if it doesn't clear up by tomorrow. I gave her Benadryl when she got the rashes from her fleas, and I'm not really sure if it helped or not?

I'm going to try the Benadryl for a bit. Would the saline even help?

Minnie used to itch like crazy and had red whites (LOL, that just sounds funny) when we had her on Iams. We switched her to Wellness and added a fish oil supplement and it helped immensely. Some days her eyes are more red than others, I'm pretty sure it's allergies.
Does your pup have any strange discharge from it's eyes or nose? If so I'd get it checked out by a vet.
